Mrs. Bette McLeod, one of our greatest leaders who Kiamsha has rubbed shoulders with over the last 25 years transitioned on Thursday, September 28.

All of you can be proud of the love and respect we showed Mrs. McLeod as we gave her flowers while she was here on this side with us.

Mrs. Bette McLeod was honored by ASALH because of the training she provided to ASALH's youth component--none other than Kiamsha! She honored with scholars of scholars, historians of historians, community activists of activists as an ASALH Ray of Light Centennial Honoree and her interview, that answered the question "How has Carter G. Woodson impacted your life and your life's work," will be included in the Carter G. Woodson Home in Washington DC as part of the interpretation of this historic site.

We all know what she has left behind will never be forgotten--will always be usable--will live on forever--her legacy lives through all of us.

We hope you can attend one of the two sessions to celebrate her life:

On Thursday evening, October 5, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., her daughter and son, Cheryl and Kenneth McLeod, will host a session at the Comfort Inn on Highway 301 right off 50, 4500 Crain Highway, Bowie, MD 20716, that will provide people a chance to share their memories about Mrs. McLeod. I hope many of you can attend.

On Friday, October 6, 2017, at Mt. Nebo AME Church, 1001 Old Mitchellville Road, Bowie, MD 20716, a viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. and services will begin at 11:00 a.m.
